Step 1 of 3
Step 2 of 3
Step 3 of 3
Compare DNA fingerprints of sick people with those of field
samples and identify matches.
Decide if you need more samples to get more matches.
- Request more environmental samples
- Assign resources to collect more samples
Identify DNA fingerprints of the sick people with similar
diseases and choose the one that is the closest match.
Now allocate resources to pursue treatments for the
disease.
Drag Resource Chips to the most likely sources of the disease. You can assign all your chips to one source, or spread them out among all the matching sources. Use your best judgment!
The more chips you assign to a source, the more effort devoted to that treatment.

Public health saves lives—your life, the lives of your family and friends, and the lives
of people around the world. In fact, public health workers have
saved more lives than any other group. Working within communities, public health professionals prevent illness
and injury, control deadly diseases, help people through disasters,
deliver health care, educate people about healthy lifestyles, and keep the environment—including our food,
air and water—safe and clean.
An environmental health scientist (EHS) protects people's health and safety by:
- Identifying and addressing risks from hazards in the environment
- Educating people about the risks of exposure to disease and hazards
- Preventing air and water pollution, toxic chemical contamination and unsafe waste disposal
- Teaching people how to care for the environment
An epidemiologist investigates and reduces the spread of disease by:
- Collecting and analyzing data about public health and diseases
- Understanding demographic and social trends that affect disease
- Studying the causes and risks of medical conditions and disease outbreaks
- Working with other public health workers to control the spread of disease
A public health officer (PHO) leads other professionals to protect the public's
health and safety by:
- Managing policies and procedures
- Planning and delivering programs
- Consulting with government and elected officials
- Making announcements to the press and general public
- Working with others to minimize public concern and social disruption during emergencies
A community health educator (CHE) works directly with community members to:
- Inform the public about health issues and risks
- Identify people at risk for disease
- Teach people how to prevent and treat illness and protect the health of their families
- Provide information and services to individuals and families

This number represents how much your actions have helped control the epidemic.
